Hey! I'm David, cofounder of zkSecurity and the author of the Real-World Cryptography book. I was previously a crypto architect at O(1) Labs (working on the Mina cryptocurrency), before that I was the security lead for Diem (formerly Libra) at Novi (Facebook), and a security consultant for the Cryptography Services of NCC Group. This is my blog about cryptography and security and other related topics that I find interesting.

The book is finished, well sort of... posted November 2020

If you didn't know, I've been writing a book (called Real-World Cryptography) for almost 2 years now on applied cryptography, why would I do this? I answered this in a post here.

I've finished writing all 15 chapters which are split into a first part on primitives, the ingredients of cryptography, and a second part on protocols, the recipes of cryptography:

  1. Introduction
  2. Hash functions
  3. Message authentication codes
  4. Authenticated encryption
  5. Key exchanges
  6. Asymmetric encryption and hybrid encryption
  7. Signatures and zero-knowledge proofs
  8. Randomness and secrets
  9. Secure transport
  10. End-to-end encryption
  11. User authentication
  12. Crypto as in cryptocurrency?
  13. Hardware cryptography
  14. Post-quantum cryptography
  15. Next-generation cryptography and final words

Is this it? Unfortunately it is not, I now will start the long revision process. I am collecting feedback on various chapters, so if you want to help me write the best book possible please contact me with a chapter in mind :)

Well done! You've reached the end of my post. Now you can leave a comment or read something else.

Huge thanks for writing this David. You have definitely filled a gap in the market. This is the best cryptography book for beginners and people who aren't interested in all the maths. I look forward to finishing it.
